How do online classes work?
At your convenience, you log into our learning management system and take a class from your computer. When you’ve completed the material, we’ll turn in your completion directly to the real estate commission.
What are the benefits of taking online education?
1)You can take a class when it’s convenient for you (24/7)
2) You don’t have to take the entire class at one time (log in and out)
3) You don’t have to drive long distances to take the class (Save Gas)
4) You can take the class from different locations (Internet Access Required)
5) You don’t have to miss important appointments (flexible schedule)
6) You can learn exciting new material instead of having to take the same old class.
Do I have to be computer savvy?
Not really. Our system is designed so that anyone who can click a mouse can navigate through our courses. We even have a video about how to navigate that we suggest you watch before starting the course.
Are the classes just reading material online?
No. Our classes contain audio and video. We try to make them entertaining as well as informative.
Do I need a high speed Internet connection?
Yes. A high speed Internet connection (DSL/Cable, etc.) will be required to register for any of our online courses. Even a slower DSL connection (256k or lower) may cause you to experience wait times as videos and other multimedia resources load. If you have any questions about whether your computer setup meets our technical requirements, please contact us via email before registering for any courses.
Do I need a new computer?
While a new computer would work great, any computer with a decent processor and at least 512MB of RAM should work fine.
Do I have to take the entire section/class at one time?
No. You can log in and out as much as you want.
How much time will it take to complete a continuing education (C.E.) class?
All of our Kentucky online continuing education (C.E.) classes are certified as either 3-hour courses or 6-hour courses. It will take most people right around 3 hours to complete a 3 hour course although it could take slightly less or slightly more time. All activities must be completed for credit to be given.
How much time will it take to complete the pre-license class?
It’s a 96 hour course, but it could take slightly less or more than 96 hours. People that have a slower Internet connection tend to take longer because they must wait for material to load. You have to complete all the resources in order to finish regardless of the time it takes.
Is there a proctored exam?
Every course has a final exam that you are required to pass with a score of 75% or higher. This is a Kentucky Real Estate Commission requirement, but if you don’t pass the test on your first try, you are allowed to immediately retake the test. For continuing education courses, the test is online as part of the course. For the prelicense course and for all 48 hour broker courses, you must take a test in front of one of our approved “proctors”. (We have 20 locations throughout the state of Kentucky or you can contact us if you are out of state). If necessary we can try to arrange for a proctor to administer the test in other locations.
If I’m already licensed, how long do I have to complete a continuing education (CE) course?
You have six months from when you begin or till the end of the year. (whichever is shorter) For instance if you started November 15th, you’d need to complete the class by December 31st because that’s when Kentucky requires courses to be completed. (See below for pre-license or broker courses)
How long do I have to complete the getting licensed 96 hour pre-license course or any 48 hour broker course?
You have six months from when you start the course. This time can be extended based on individual circumstances such as sickness or death of a family member. As an example, if you register/start the course on Dec 1st, under normal circumstances you would need to finish by June 1st of the following year. The Dec 31st deadline mentioned above is only for existing agents taking continuing education classes and does not apply to pre-license or broker courses.
Can I get Kentucky approved credit for an online C.E. course?
Yes. Our pre-license and CE courses are approved by ARELLO and the Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC) and you get completion credit just like you would in an “in classroom” setting.
Are your online classes approved by ARELLO?
Yes. Our online classes have been certified by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) as meeting their strict approval standards. At this point in time, Thornton’s Real Estate Academy is the only approved ARELLO Primary Provider (creator of their own classes) in Kentucky.
Who will be my instructor?
The instructor of record for all of our courses is Todd Thornton. Todd is involved in the courses daily but he also has other instructors monitoring the courses so that response time to any question is answered quickly. In fact, Todd was the first instructor in Kentucky to achieve the CDEI designation (Certified Distance Education Instructor)
How much do the classes cost?
6 Hours CE- $30
96 Hour Pre-license Course is $599
48 Hour Broker Courses- $499
Do you have a payment plan?
Sorry, but we don’t have a payment plan. We accept checks, VISA, MASTERCARD, or AMERICAN EXPRESS.
